Food inspiration

I am not sure if my permanent hunger has something to do with this lady Isa Chandra Moskowitz and her project called “The Post Punk Kitchen”.., half a year ago I have bought her book Appetite for Reduction, which has also the best cover picture design as you can see here (hasn’t it?)

And of course all of the illustrations in the book are amazing (they are made in pin-up, tattoo style). The other thing you have to appreciate about this vegan cookbook is the style of Isa’s writing, she is great in creating relaxed atmosphere – for me is it like have a dialogue with author, like she is one of the friend of mine. As she has a talent to predict the needs of her audience (I really love the style how she even mentions time which is needed for preparing each meal…and yes, the time for active and passive preparation. How smart and catchy 😉

On the Wednesday night I just went through some of their cooking videos. One of the recipe seemed to be extraordinary suitable for me it is called Mac & Cheese (vegan cashew based cheese, of course). Since I have bought new food processor (what I have mentioned one post before), there was no other obstacle to try it. I was extremely surprised when my boyfriend come back to home from work and declared to me, that this one cooking session will be not only photographed, but we also have tried to make own video (the postproduction process hasn’t started yet 🙂 but when the result will be fine, I will post it. Ok, I just have realized how much I can write about something what is a passion for me, as vegan food is. Now, I need to be brief.

Here is a picture of our version of Mac and Cheese (we were following the Isa’s recipe, only some exceptions were made in the case of spices and an amount of garlic – because we love garlic so much. Here is also the whole list of ingredients:

  • 1/2 pound macaroni or other small pasta
  • 3/4 cups cashews, soaked in water for 2 hours
  • 2 teaspoons olive oil
  • 1 small yellow onion, diced medium
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups vegetable broth
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons organic cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon nutritional yeast (optional)
  • 1 roasted red pepper (jarred or homemade)
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons pizza seasoning (see note)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric

But the original recipe you can find also HERE. Bon appetite!

spinach vs. mint

After two weeks of traveling (what also has included some experiments of making good vegan bean soup outside on fire), I am finally at home trying to balance my eating. As a first step I have decided to improve my smoothie skills. There was one choice: to buy foodprocessor by Vitamix or not. And it makes no sense for me to own such expensive one….so I have chosen a cheaper version of foodprocessor – G21 Perfect Smoothie (with the prospect of a new iPad with Retina display instead of having only Vitamix 😀 and I can’t find negatives for it.

There is a result of first smoothie, which consists of:

  • baby spinach
  • 5 riped bananas
  • 6 peaches
  • water
  • fresh mint
  • young barley

I was really surprised, what a pleasure is to make smoothie with that green monster.

Have you any experiences with it?

And what are your favorite combinations of ingredients for smoothie?

Coriander Boost Up

All you need:

  • coriander (as a a cornerstone-as the name implies)
  • champignons

  • rice noodles
  • onioncoriander

Recently, I was pretty impressed by this amazing stuff This Land Is Mine.

It is animation by “America’s best-loved unknown cartoonist” (according to author herself) Nina Paley. There are more aspects that can impress you. In the first place, it is amazing and simple graphic [yes, I am aware of the fact how time-consuming it is to do graphic – maybe better word is “minimalist”].

Snímek obrazovky 2014-07-27 v 8.12.47

There is a typology of various type of “warriors” that have ever existed…the author has called it as A Viewer’s Guide [Who’s Killing Who?].

The second fact is an erudite approach of the author to the issue of violence in the “land”. She outlines various conflicts across the history (you can appreciate educational character of the story). I highly recommend you to watch it and share this masterpiece with your friends, following the motto:

After watching this video, I promise, you will have an extensive discussion about the issues like violence, addiction [on power] and of course gender issue related to this. Superficially, we could argue that all violence is committed by men… but maybe just women did not get the opportunity to manage the series of battles.          Yeah, and have I mentioned the excellent song? Enjoy watching it!

I didn’t expect that a request for the first blog post will pop up to me so suddenly – I have never blogged before. But today I got the impulse after waking up (or maybe it was yesterday awakening subconsciously…who knows).

Now, just naming of the blog seems to me as a challenge (even when you decide to use random words generator – shame on me), but who doesn’t try new things, will learn nothing.

My intended blog posts will reflect all actualities, which employ my mind. Let the typing begin!
